Review of Anticipating Surprise

Anticipating Surprise: Analysis for Strategic WarningAnticipating Surprise: Analysis for Strategic Warning by Cynthia M. Grabo

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Fair warning here, no pun intended, Anticipating Surprise: Analysis for Strategic Warning is a difficult book to get through. It is based on a previously classified book by Cynthia M. Grabo to teach CIA analysts how to conduct warning analysis. In and of itself not an easy concept to convey. Having this book unclassified, and available to the public- especially right now – is fortuitous. Having an understanding of what the Intelligence Community is capable of, and has to go through on a regular basis, should be enlightening to anyone wanting to understand the complexities of the intelligence field and the dedication of those who work in it.
